Christmas comes early to Fareham!

Like it says Christmas came early to the Carter house recently. I have been using up some odd cottons I found and thought that snowflakes would be the way to go. In true snowflake fashion each one is individual and based on a hexagon. I am in the process of trying to makre them ridged. Like always feedback would be great. Will be making more over the next few days.

street urchins and toilet dolls

A couple of weeks ago the boys came home from school with requests for urchin costumes as the school is doing a whole school production of Oliver! Each year group is given a song to learn and those that want to get to sing in the show. All the pupils are involved in someway, from ticket production and sale through to back stage work. I was lucky that I already had an outfit that I could alter for Jason but I had to make Lewis' from scratch. The school also asked that the costumes were dirty! So I clean the house with them then put food dye onto the trousers. Here is the result.

Did your Gran or possibly even your mum have one of those plastic dolls that wore a large knitted or crocheted dress that was used to cover a spare toilet roll? Well that's what I have been making over the last few weeks. What do you think? If you like them they are available to buy through my facebook page

HMS Collingwood Open day/ Field Gun

Wow what a day.
Thought this won't be very good or interesting will be home again in half hour only really going to support Dan who was working there for the day. The total cost of entry for us ( me and the three boys) was £11, which it turned out to be good value for money. The funfair was provided free of charge and we all know how expensive they can be. There were various display teams from the re-enactment of being press gang through to dog display teams. All the services were represented, the boys enjoyed having a look round a chinook and tried on helmets, I found it a little disturbing though when they said that it could hold 24 stretchers brings it home really as to what these people do for us all.
Oscar got to watch the marchers as he call them which to you and me is a marching band so he was happy. After a break for food more rides in the funfair and then a go at being winched up into a helicopter.
We were really lucky with the weather as the sun broke through and it was glorious. We never got to see half the stuff that was going on like the gun crews, or all the stalls that were raising funds. We are already planning to go back next year but this time armed with chairs, food and lots of change so the kids can soak the sailor and take part in the tombola. I think that this was real value for money and if anyone has the chance to go they should for no other reason then its a really good day out. Oh yes and there are lots of lovely uniformed bods to look at!!!

Have had a very busy weekend entertaining the olds! We all had a lovely time though. Whilst here we took them to see the USS George Bush which was visiting the south, she was anchored in Stokes Bay. It was something to see. There were about 70 planes on the deck and just appeared as a massive ship in the Solent, the land behind it is the Isle of Wight what is really hard here is to get a scale to show just how big the ship is.

I HAVE RETURNED!!

As it says I am back!
Been too long, things have changed but not a lot. I have decided to return to blogging.
Too many things have come and gone since the last time I posted so I think best to start again.
So today saw all the boys to school and pre school ( yes Oscar is now in preschool hurrah)
followed by getting soaked in the only downpour this morning. Very little crafting has taken place today however i did get another order for a cinderella topsy turvy doll so when I've finished the penguin I'm doing I will start. For a picuture just look to the left!
I have been developing a range of fairy story finger puppets. Pictures of these can be seen at
Thinking that a gingerbread man set might be good any other ideas?
well best go as the glass of wine I have is calling me....
